Department for Climate and Environment

The department is responsible for aid and advisory services in the areas of food security, agriculture, green transition, maritime life, rainforests and the environment.

The department has a special responsibility for work to achieve SDGs 2) Zero Hunger, 7) Affordable and Clean Energy, 11) Sustainable Cities and Communities, 12) Responsible Consumption and Production, 13) Climate Action, 14) Life Below Water and 15) Life on Land.

Section for Nature and Climate

This section is charged with matters related to climate, emission reduction, climate adaptation and biological diversity. The section is working to achieve SDGs 13 - Climate Action and 15 - Life on Land.

Section for Oceans

This section is charged with matters related to marine litter, oceans, the blue economy and cooperation with civil society. The section is working to achieve SDG 14 - Life Below Water.

Section for Forests

The section is charged with following up Norway’s International Climate and Forest Initiative (NICFI). The section is working to achieve SDGs 13 - Climate Action and 15 - Life on Land.

Section for Energy

This section is charged with matters related to clean energy and responsible management of petroleum resources. The section is working to achieve SDG 7 - Affordable and Clean Energy.

Section for Food

This section is charged with matters related to sustainable food systems, agriculture, international agriculture research, genetic diversity and seed security. Furthermore, the section is engaged in nutrition and sustainable diets. The section follows up agreements with civil society organisations and industry. The section is working to achieve SDG 2 - Zero Hunger.
