Norway supports sustainable Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Sub-Saharan Africa with close to NOK 590 million

11 companies will receive Norwegian support for innovation and entrepreneurship in the blue economy, food security, renewable energy, climate adaptation, and reduced marine litter in Sub-Saharan Africa. Norwegian and international incubators, accelerators, and financial institutions will receive a total of NOK 588.4 million in grants and first-loss capital to stimulate increased innovation and job creation in priority sectors. The scheme aims to contribute to sustainable and innovative growth.

Norwegian support brings hope to families of Ukraine’s missing

The war in Ukraine has left a devastating impact on thousands of families, with over 57,000 people registered as missing. This includes both civilians and soldiers who have disappeared during fighting, forced deportations, and other war-related events. Thanks to a three-year project funded by Norway with NOK 100 million, the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) is helping Ukraine strengthen its ability to locate the missing and support their families.

Humanitarian support following the Kakhovka dam explosion

The explosion of the Kakhovka dam in June 2023 triggered a flood that hit southern Ukraine hard. Homes were destroyed, lives were lost and the lack of access to clean water resulted in an urgent need for international aid. Norway was quick to respond, through the Nansen programme.

The Russian invasion has had catastrophic consequences for the Ukrainian health service. Hospitals and clinics have been destroyed, placing healthcare professionals in dangerous situations, and the need for medical help has grown immensely. Many Ukrainians are suffering from both physical and psychological trauma and vulnerable groups are particularly at risk.
