The EDFIs manage a joint investment portfolio of more than US$ 50 billion from 15 European development banks financing private business in emerging markets in sustainable projects and companies. Nanno is also a Senior Fellow at the World Resources Institute where he advises on finance, business and the private sector in land restoration, land protection and food loss and waste.

Bas Rüter, Director of Sustainability, Rabobank

Bas Rüter has served as Director of Sustainability at Rabobank since February 2012. Rabobank’s US$ 1 billion blended finance sustainability fund – part of the Kickstart Food program – in partnership with UN Environment was launched in October 2017 and is a crucial platform to promote farmers’ transitions to more sustainable practices in food supply chain transparency. The programme, set to last three years, will mix grant and low interest rate loans with insurance products and provide regular monitoring of farmers’ activities along sustainability metrics. This initiative fits into Rabobank’s broader intention to increase support for food production efforts by 60% toward 2050 while reducing the sector’s environmental footprint by 50%.

Bas holds various Chairs and Board positions, including as Chairman of the Finance Committee of Climate Smart Agriculture at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, Chairman of the Investment Committee at SHIFT Invest, and Chairman of the Supervisory Board at the Dutch Greentech Fund. Bas holds a Master’s degree in Biology from Wageningen University.
