Agreements Worth NOK 248 Million Will Contribute to More Renewable Energy in Developing Countries

Norway enters into agreements with 27 different projects. This includes both Norwegian and international companies.

– Supporting companies and organisations working on renewable energy and clean energy solutions in developing countries is a win-win situation. This is important in order to reduce poverty and for us to achieve the global climate targets. I hope that these investments will help secure clean energy supplies, as well as creating new jobs and opportunities for economic growth in developing countries, says Åsmund Aukrust, Norwegian Minister of International Development.

The business support scheme for renewable energy in developing countries is managed by Norad and the call for proposals is published annually.

 – Supporting businesses in the early phase is a sensible use of aid funds. The support has been crucial for several major investments that have taken place. There is significant potential for investments and we hope that more private-sector stakeholders decide to invest in developing countries, says Bård Vegar Solhjell, Director General of Norad.

The business support scheme provides funding for companies in renewable energy, energy supply or other clean energy solutions and is an important contributor to Norway’s efforts to stimulate the business sector to invest in renewable energy in developing countries. In the 2024 allocations, Norad, which administers the scheme, has awarded a total of NOK 248 million in funding to a total of 27 projects. Funding has been allocated to solar, wind, hydropower and clean stove projects in countries such as Zambia, Nigeria, Malawi, Cameroon, Uganda, Senegal, South Africa, Indonesia and Nepal.

The funding has already been announced at regjeringen.no and the agreements have now been entered into.
