Oil for Development
The Oil for Development (OfD) programme was initiated by the Norwegian Government in 2005. The aim of the OfD programme is to reduce poverty by promoting economically, environmentally and socially responsible management of petroleum resources.
Access to sustainable, affordable and reliable energy services is crucial in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), especially MDG 1 (eradicate extreme poverty and hunger) and MDG 7 (ensure environmental sustainability).
Gender in energy
The Norwegian Action Plan for Women's Rights and Gender Equality (WRGE) that was launched in 2007 emphasized the importance of gender sensitivity in energy as one of the five priority areas of Norwegian development cooperation.
