Guiliana Torta

Policy Officer, European Commission Directorate for Environment

Ms Torta worked at the European Commission in 2006 as policy officer and is currently responsible for international forest policies in the International Unit, with main responsibility for the implementation of the FLEGT Action Plan in South East Asia and the Mekong region. Prior to this, Ms Torta worked as a forest researcher, specializing in forest ecology (1989 – 1996), and Advisor in agriculture and forestry at the Delegation of the EC for the Pacific, Suva (1996 – 1998). In addition, Ms Torta has also worked as an independent consultant, working on a number of environmental policy projects and initiatives for the European Commission and the World Bank (1998 – 2005).

Ms Torta is a trained forest ecologist, with a first university degree in Forest Sciences (1991, University of Florence, Italy). She also holds a post degree diploma in Remote Sensing and Land Assessment (1993, Overseas Agronomic Institute, Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and a PhD in Landscape Ecology and geomatics (1997, University of Padua and Institute of Terrestrial Ecology, Banchory Scotland). 

Ms. Torta will attend Parallel B2 Demand side policies in consumer countries.
