South-South exchange contributes to learning about LED-R issues across rainforest countries
Alliance members from Brazil (IPAM), Peru (Instituto del Bien Comun), Kenya (Greenbelt Movement), and the United States (Earth Innovation Institute) joined Pronatura-Sur staff to get to know the challenges faced by a diverse group of actors in this region to maintain the biodiversity and hydrological values of the region while producing subsistence crops (slash-and-burn milpa), coffee, and cattle and harvesting timber. -

Rate of peat land conversion has decreased in Indonesia
Wetlands International (WI) provides continuous scientific, technical and policy input on land loss from subsidence of peat lands, peat land degradation and peat land conversion at relevant international meetings in Southeast Asia. The rate of peat land conversion has decreased in Indonesia. -

Sixteen communities trained to conduct community-based forest monitoring in their territories
Carbon stock measurement estimates in Guyana have allowed sixteen communities to become some of the first Amerindian communities in Guyana to have an understanding of the carbon stocks in their territories. This exercise also provides further evidence and demonstrates the local-global relevance of community based monitoring for gathering reliable data for national forest inventories. -

Pilot models of REDD+ implementation at grassroots level in Vietnam
Ethnic minorities and local communities participate in two pilot models in Northern Vietnam. The pilot models have led to the establishment of legal community organizations and institutions through cooperatives and self-governing groups. -

RAN pressures consumer companies to adopt responsible palm oil policies
In October 2013, RAN undertook a field trip to document the impacts of palm oil expansion into the Leuser Ecosystem. The findings were published in a case study titled “Globally Important Leuser Ecosystem threatened By Conflict Palm Oil” that has since been used to pressure consumer companies to adopt responsible palm oil policies that would prohibit the sourcing of palm oil produced from within the Leuser Ecosystem. -

New reserves for "uncontacted" people established
RRI Collaborator, Asociación Interétnica de Desarrollo de la Selva Peruana (AIDESEP) has been advocating for the protection of Indigenous People in Voluntary Isolation and Initial Contact (PIAVCI) in the Peruvian Amazon for over 20 years, and in 2013, they succeeded in creating new reserves for the “uncontacted” people. -

High Conservation Value models discussed on a cross-commodity basis for the first time
To develop practical guidance for the implementation of models for smallholder development, the SHARP focal point in Brazil has been in ongoing discussions with companies and other stakeholders. During these discussions, there have been repeated requests for assistance in developing practical tools. -

Indonesia supports more serious examination of interim forest finance
Since the Roundtable for Interim Forest Finance took place in Jakarta on 13 February 2014, Dr. Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, the Head of the Presidential REDD+ Taskforce has mentioned the need for Interim Forest Finance and the use of innovative financing methods explicitly in one of his recent public speeches on the 21 March 2014.
