Webinar April 5th: The role of cities in climate resilient development

Arranged by Norad and Habitat Norway

Norad and Habitat Norway invite you to learn more about the scientific basis to why cities are both increasingly vulnerable to the consequences of climate change and must play a key role in finding solutions, following the launch of the latest report from The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

Cities are responsible for more than 70% of all greenhouse gas emissions and is the home of more than half of the world’s population. Yet, the important role played by cities in both climate change mitigation and adaptation is often overlooked.

How are cities in the south affected by the effects of climate change and what are some of the concrete solutions available to cities?

Two of IPCCs lead authors are joining us to explain what the latest IPCC reports are conveying about the challenges facing cities and their role as part of climate resilient development.

We will also be introduced to specific examples of climate solutions and how local communities adapt today and plan for their future. This is also an opportunity to learn about clean cooking solutions, green roofs and walls, sponge cities and innovative urban waste management.
