Oslo Conference on Global Health

A World in Transition: Charting a New Path in Global Health is the theme of a high-level conference in Oslo City Hall 1 June 2012.

Norway is deeply engaged in efforts to promote global health and gender equality, including women’s and children’s rights and health. Political involvement and commitment are crucial in order to reach the Millennium Development Goals in these areas.

The Conference “A World in Transition; Charting a New Path in Global Health” will bring together prominent politicians and experts in a joint effort to eliminate the tragic and preventable deaths of women, mothers and children around the world and thus bring hope, equity and prosperity to their families and communities.

Visit from The high-level part of the conference will feature a panel discussion between prominent experts and politicians on different aspects of sustainability. The panel discussion will be followed by a speech by Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Jonas Gahr Støre and keynote address by US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Norad's workshops

The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) will hold four workshops before the high-level meeting. The workshops will start at 12:00pm. Between 15 and 30 guests have been specially invited to participate in each of them. The themes of the workshops are:

  1. Scaling and Sustaining New Technologies for Health
  2. Economic Benefits of Investing in Women’s Health
  3. Saving Mothers Giving Lives 
  4. Sexual Violence
