Jan Willem den Besten

Jan Willem den Besten holds degrees in Environmental Science and Forest and Nature Conservation Policy. He worked in South Asia for 15 years in environmental management, conservation and human rights. He has been involved in REDD+ since 2009 as knowledge manager for IUCN in Washington DC and as a PhD researcher at Wageningen University. He currently leads the REDD+ programme of the Committee of IUCN in The Netherlands. Working with both private sector, government and NGOs, IUCN NL focuses both on the supply and the demand side of REDD+. Important work areas include capacity building of community and civil society organisations in REDD+ countries and collaborative public-private efforts to invest in REDD+.
