Carlos Klink

National Secretary for Climate Change and Environmental Quality of the Ministry of Environment, Brazil

Carlos A. Klink is a native Brazilian. He currently is Brazil´s Secretary for Climate Change and Environmental Quality at the Ministry of the Environment. He is a Senior Program Officer of the Sustainable Business advisory at the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank Group (on leave), where he worked as the Team Leader for the Amazon-Cerrado initiative. He is also a Professor of Ecology at the University of Brasilia (on leave), where he researched and trained graduate students in the areas of conservation of tropical ecosystems, land use and climate change.

He has 18 years of experience working with land-use, climate change, and sustainable business in the Amazon and Cerrado ecosystems of Brazil (mainly agribusiness and forestry). He also worked on conservation strategies across ecosystems, working with corporations, financial institutions, trade forums, academia and NGOs. He served in the board of Brazilian NGOs, government institutions and international scientific committees.

He got his BSc. in Biology and MSc. in Ecology from the University of Campinas, Brazil and his MA. and PhD. in Ecology from Harvard University. He was a visiting scholar at the University of Maryland, College Park. Carlos published 2 books, 51 peer reviewed scientific articles, and has 120+ paper presentations.
