Andrew Bovarnick

Global Head, Green Commodities Programme, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

Andrew has twenty years’ experience as an environmental economist working internationally on environment and development issues, for both the public and private sector.  Andrew is UNDP’s Lead Natural Resource Economist and Global Head of UNDP’s Green Commodities Facility.  As global head of the Green Commodities Facility Andrew leads a global team developing and implementing projects to take sustainable commodity production to scale through public private partnerships and strengthening of governance. Andrew currently focuses on strategies for beef, cocoa, coffee, palm oil and soy.

A strong emphasis is given on reducing deforestation from the targeted supply chains. As lead natural resource economist Andrew guides UNDP country programmes to introduce and apply economic approaches to global environmental problems such as promoting market based approaches and private sector engagement, certification, small business development, sectorial reform, supply chain management, economic valuation, payments for environmental services and sustainable financing.  

Mr. Bovarnick will moderate Parallel B1 Voluntary efforts to remove deforestation from supply chains.
