The government of Norway is leading an innovation competition to develop a smartphone application that can help Syrian children learn to read and improve their psychosocial wellbeing.
Today, three million Syrian children are unable to attend school because of war. Many are coping with trauma and high stress levels which affect their ability to learn.
The competition has been launched in cooperation with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), All Children Reading: A Grand Challenge for Development, the mobile network operator Orange and the Inter-Agency Network for Emergency Education (INEE).
We are eager to receive feedback from the market. As such, dialogue conferences will be held to provide an introduction of key topics and provide significant time for questions and answers.
Who should attend:
To help guide the competition specifications and model we encourage participation from edtech companies, game developers, humanitarian organizations working with Syrian refugees, experts on Arabic language and literacy, education in emergencies or psychosocial wellbeing, as well as potential users (e.g. Syrian refugees or other Arabic-speaking communities that could use this type of tool as a learning supplement).
