Amplifying marginalized voices in East African border areas

Interview with Dr. Munzoul Assal, Deputy Director of the Peace Research Institute at the University of Khartoum.

In this interview Dr. Assal outlines the Norway/NORHED-funded project "Borderland dynamics: Anthropological capacity building in East African universities".

Dr. Assal is the coordinator of the project, which involves seven partners in Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda and Norway. The activities started in 2014 and will run until 2018. The total budget is 17,5 million Norwegian kroner (nearly 3 million USD).

Dr. Munzoul Assal from El Fasher in Darfur is Deputy Director of the Peace Research Institute at the University of Khartoum, Sudan. Dr. Assal completed his PhD at the University of Bergen in 2003. His dissertation compared the situation of Somali and Sudanese refugees in Norway.
