Senior Officer UN-REDD

Thais Linhares-Juvenal, Brazilian, is an economist by training with MSc in Environmental Policy and Regulation by the London School of Economics and Political Science. She joined the UN-REDD Programme in May 2011 as Senior Officer at the UN-REDD Secretariat. Before joining the UN-REDD, Thais was Director of Climate Change of the Ministry of Environment in Brazil, where she was responsible for coordinating the Brazilian sectorial plans for climate change mitigation, the National Climate Change Fund and the Amazon Fund, as well as implementing a participatory process for building a REDD+ regime in Brazil.

Previously, Thais had also been Director of the Brazilian Forest Service and held several executive positions at the Brazilian National Bank for Economic and Social Development. From 2008 until joining the UN-REDD Programme, Thais was a UNFCCC negotiator for Brazil, having participated of the negotiation of the Cancun Agreements and co-chaired the REDD+ Partnership.

Thais is a member of the Oslo REDD Exchange 2013 Programme Committee,and will moderate session Parallel C2 Under what condition is REDD+ a threat / opportunity to local rights?
