María José Sanz Sánchez

Program Coordinator for National Implementation UN – REDD Program (FOM Division) FAO

Ms. Sánchez is currently working as a program coordinator at UN-REDD. Prior to this, Ms. Sánchez has worked as Director for the Air Pollution Effects and Atmospheric Chemistry Program at the Centre for Environmental studies in the Mediterranean (Spain, 2000 – 2007). She then worked as Senior Officer at the UNFCCC Secretariat, leading the support for negotiations on LULUCF, Agriculture and REDD (2007 – 2011), before she joined the Climate Change Research Institute as Scientific Director (2011 – 2012). Ms. Sánchez has also been a member of the Spanish Delegation and Advisor to the Ministry of Environment for Climate Change Negotiations (2000 – 2007), and a member of the CDM Executive Board, representing Europe in 2007.

Ms. Sánchez holds a PhD in Botany by the University of Valencia and Post Doc at the Arizona State University in the area of eco physiology and air pollution impacts. 

Ms. Sánchez will attend Parallel C4: Improving national systems for REDD+ monitoring and MRV – from national to the community level.
