Stream D: Jurisdictional Approaches

Where are the most interesting jurisdictional-level innovations taking place, and what are the key challenges in aligning policies and finance across levels?

Parallel D1

Building Jurisdictional Frameworks for REDD+ and Low Emissions Development: Challenges and Opportunities

This panel will share experiences on several pioneering efforts to build “jurisdictional” approaches to REDD+ and low emissions development, primarily at the sub-national level. The panel will discuss some of the common elements of jurisdictional approaches, how they differ from project-level activities, and how they fit with other emerging approaches such as sustainable supply chains.  Based on the experiences of building jurisdictional approaches at multiple scales across different geographies and institutional contexts, the panel will discuss key challenges and opportunities facing efforts to build and sustain jurisdictional programs as well as lessons learned from early experiences.

Questions to be addressed in the session include:  What are the options for mobilizing public and private finance to incentivize jurisdictional approaches?  What jurisdiction-wide metrics of deforestation, emissions, and social performance could help realize these synergies?
